IDEX and Nuada deploy a pioneering biogenic CO₂ capture unit in the Somme
The IDEX Group and Nuada, a specialist in innovative carbon capture technologies, announce a strategic partnership to deploy one of Europe's first industrial units for the capture and utilisation of biogenic CO₂.
A concrete response to residual emissions
Whilst energy sobriety, efficiency and the use of local, low-carbon energy sources can significantly reduce emissions, some of them remain unavoidable today. In response to this reality, CO₂ capture is emerging as an essential complementary lever to accelerate the decarbonisation of industrial activities.
It is within this context that IDEX is hosting Nuada's Adspire® technology at its Kogeban biomass cogeneration plant in Hauts-de-France: a next-generation solution based on porous materials (MOFs), operating solely on electricity and without chemical solvents. Compact and self-contained, it integrates seamlessly into existing installations without interfering with their heat and electricity production.

10,000 tonnes of biogenic CO₂ captured per year
At full capacity, the unit will capture up to 10,000 tonnes of biogenic CO₂ per year, paving the way for broader deployment across other industrial sites in France and Europe.
The captured CO₂ will be utilised through two complementary pathways:
-
Local short-circuit utilisation: once purified and liquefied, the CO₂ will be made available to regional industrial players as a substitute for fossil-derived CO₂, particularly for food-grade applications.
-
Deep geological storage: a portion of the biogenic CO₂ will be stored in deep geological formations, generating so-called "negative emissions" — a key lever for achieving global carbon neutrality.
A project rooted in its territory
Supported by the Somme Prefecture, Nord France Invest, the Communauté de communes de l'Est de la Somme and the town of Nesle, this project contributes to local economic vitality by creating skilled direct jobs in engineering and operations, as well as indirect employment during the construction phase.
It demonstrates IDEX's ability to build genuine local value chains around a territory's energy resources, bringing together public authorities, industrial players and technology partners around a shared objective: accelerating the decarbonisation of local territories.
